From the East
October
2008
Brothers,
We are
now headed toward our fourth meeting this fall and I still
have not seen some of you in Lodge. Please stop in and see
your old friends as well as make some new ones. Your lodge
misses you.
At our
first Communication in October, we were honored by the
presence of our District Deputy, R.:W.: Duncan Stalker. He
delivered the Grand Master’s message and gave us some nice
compliments on our ritual work. The next meeting drew a
packed house as we celebrated Oktoberfest and “Bring a
Friend Night”. Once again our chefs, W.:George Tate and
W.:Bob Lent out did themselves. Their culinary efforts were
complimented by the wonderful authentic German dishes and
deserts prepared by our Lodge’s First Lady Mrs. Marianne
Janowski. And to compliment the great food, we had a
presentation by Brew master Scott Vacarro of Captain
Lawrence Brewing of Pleasantville. With the combination of
authentic German food and great beer, nobody went home
dissatisfied.
On
Saturday October 18th, I had the pleasure of attending the
1st Masonic Chili Cook-off. I want to thank Brothers Sam
Holden and Ron Georgio for their excellent chili. While I
would never believe that the contest was fixed, let’s just
say that the judges must have had a lot of beer to wash down
the spicier entries. Clearly, (from this absolutely unbiased
observer) White Plains Lodge had the best chili. It was a
great day for all involved and let’s just announce now that
“Next Year Will Be Our Year”.
Our
next meeting will be on November 5th and the work of the
evening will be a presentation on Prince Hall Lodge. It will
be given by Prince Hall Lodge’s Deputy Grand Master
R.”W.”Duane Walker. The event will help shed some light on a
different side of Masonry. We will also be going over the
final details of this year’s project to support our troops
overseas. We will need as many brothers as possible for this
project. Please come and help in supporting those who are
risking their lives each day, so that we can continue to
live ours.
The
following meeting on November 19th, will be our traditional
“family and fellowship” Thanksgiving Party. It will also be
our second “Bring a Friend Night”. This will be the perfect
evening to introduce your friends to Masonry. Please come
join us for a night of great food and fellowship.
On
December 3, we will receive any Petitions for Membership and
assign parts for the First Degree. If you have a potential
candidate for the several Degrees, please contact the
Secretary for the form of Petition. We have scheduled the
First Degree for January 21, 2009 and thus all Petitions
must be submitted in timely fashion to allow the
Investigation Committee to report and Balloting to occur at
our first meeting in January.
Our
meeting on December 17th will be the Lodge Holiday Party.
We will also be ringing the Bells for the Salvation Army
again this year on Saturday December 20th. This requires
only a two hour commitment on your part. Those who have
participated in the past have had the opportunity to get to
know their fellow Lodge members a little better and to do
some good for the community.
Please
come out to the next meeting. It’s not only good for the
Lodge, but it’s good for you!!!
Fraternally,
Al Frey
